Accent & Groove


Accent adds velocity movement to the selected Track, centered around its current Velocity setting. Hold [CTRL] to access Groove, which chooses the pattern that shapes that movement. Together, they let you add emphasis, swing, and dynamic feel to a sequence.


Knob Behavior

Value Button Behavior

PushSet the Accent amount directly using the [VALUE] buttons. While editing Accent, use [VB8] and [VB16] to shorten or lengthen the Groove length.
[CTRL] + PushSelect a Groove directly using the [VALUE] buttons.
[CLEAR] + PushReset the selected parameter to its default setting and clear randomization.

How Random modulation applies to Accent:

  • Clockwise: +/- accent velocity differently for each note in the chord
  • Counterclockwise: +/- accent velocity equally for each note in the chord
  • Unit: Random Rate

Groove length

The Groove length defaults to 4 bars.

  • Press [VB8] to make the Groove shorter.
  • Press [VB16] to make the Groove longer.
  • Available lengths are shown below:

Applying Accent to a Track

Accent applies bipolar velocity variation according to the selected Groove. This means parts of the Groove can push notes above the Track’s base velocity or pull them below it. The overall effect depends on the selected Groove and the Track’s Velocity setting.

  1. Select a Track.
  2. Turn (ACCENT) to adjust the amount of Accent applied.
  3. Hold [CTRL] and turn (ACCENT) to select a Groove.
  4. Optionally press a [VALUE] button to set the Accent amount directly.
  5. While editing Accent, press [VB8] to make the Groove shorter or [VB16] to make it longer.
  6. Hold [CTRL] and press a [VALUE] button to select a Groove directly.
  7. Press [CLEAR] + [VALUE] to reset the selected parameter to its default setting and clear randomization.
  8. Optionally adjust the Track’s baseline velocity using (VELOCITY).
