Temporary Control
Temp lets you apply momentary changes while the sequencer runs. Hold [TEMP] and turn a parameter control to overlay a temporary change without overwriting the underlying Pattern. Release [TEMP] and the previous values return.
- Works on Note Tracks and CC Tracks
- Applies in real time during playback
- Useful for fills, builds, breakdowns, and live balancing
- Changes are not written to the Pattern unless they are deliberately committed later
Temp is an overlay. It does not replace saved settings and does not require stopping playback.
Quick Start
- Select one or more target Tracks.
- Press [VBx] to select a Track.
- Hold multiple [VBx] buttons to multi-select.
- Hold [TEMP] and turn a parameter control.
- For example: Repeats, Pulses, Accent, or Timing.
- Release [TEMP].
- The selected Track or Tracks immediately return to their previous values.
Release Temp on a downbeat or other musical boundary for cleaner transitions.
Momentary and Latching Use
Temp can be used in two ways.
Momentary
- Press and hold [TEMP] while turning parameter controls
- Release [TEMP] to return to the stored Pattern values
Latching
- Double-tap [TEMP] to keep Temp active without holding it
- Tap [TEMP] again to exit and return to the stored Pattern values
Per-Track and All-Track Changes
Temp can affect either the selected Tracks or the whole Pattern.
Selected Tracks
- Hold [TEMP] and turn a parameter control to affect only the currently selected Track or Tracks
All Tracks in the Pattern
- Hold [TEMP] + [PATTERN] and turn a parameter control to apply a relative change across all Tracks in the active Pattern
- Release [TEMP] and [PATTERN] to return to the previous state
All-Track Temp changes are relative, so the musical balance between Tracks is preserved.
Committing a Temp Variation to a Pattern
Temp is designed to be temporary, but it can also be used to capture variations into other Pattern slots.
When Temp mode is active, selecting a Pattern slot commits the current Temp state to that slot and exits Temp.
- While holding [TEMP], open the Pattern Menu with [PATTERN]
- Press a Pattern slot [VBx]
- The current Temp state is written into that Pattern slot
- Temp mode is disabled
- Launching the original Pattern returns to the pre-Temp version
This is useful for generating several variations from one base Pattern and then switching or chaining them later.
A fast workflow is to start from one Pattern, create a Temp variation, commit it to an empty slot, repeat a few times, and then chain the resulting Patterns.
What Temp Is Good For
Temp is especially useful for short performance gestures such as:
- increasing rhythm density with Repeats or Pulses
- shifting feel with Accent, Timing, or Probability
- making brief tonal gestures with Pitch, Harmony, or Voicing
- performing temporary CC sweeps on dedicated CC Tracks
Temp combines well with Cycles. You can use Temp between Cycle changes and release it at the switch point for clean transitions.
Temporary Channel and Routing
Temp can also be used with channel and routing-related operations.
- Hold (CHANNEL) and press [VBx] to focus routing targets temporarily
- Hold [CTRL] and use (CHANNEL) for temporary routing changes
- These temporary channel and routing edits reset when Temp is released
Use temporary routing changes deliberately. If a destination suddenly becomes silent or doubled, check the current channel and routing state before releasing Temp.
Behavior and Timing
Instant Apply, Instant Revert
- Temp overlays apply as soon as you turn a parameter control
- Releasing Temp returns the previous values immediately
Quantize Awareness
- Pattern and Cycle switching still obey Quantize
- Temp itself is free-running, so timing your release musically usually gives the cleanest result
Per-Step Locks
- Per-step values remain intact under Temp
- Temp changes the audible result without rewriting step data
What Temp Does Not Change
Temp does not permanently change:
- Pattern data such as Steps, Pulses, per-step locks, or saved Cycle states
- structural operations such as Copy, Clear, Save, Reload, or Pattern and Bank selection
- Track type
If you want to keep a Temp result, dial in the values manually after releasing Temp or store the result in another Pattern or Cycle.
Practical Performance Ideas
Pulse Burst
- Hold [TEMP] and raise Repeats on hats or snare for one bar
- Release on the downbeat
Density Sweep
- Hold [TEMP] and increase Pulses
- Add a small amount of Rotate if desired
- Release to drop back to the original groove
Groove Lift
- Hold [TEMP] and add Accent plus a small amount of Timing
- Release before the fill or section change lands
Filter Rise on a CC Track
- Hold [TEMP] and raise a cutoff-related CC value
- Release on the drop to return to the original setting
