Timing & Delay

The Timing and Delay parameters let you shift notes away from the grid in different ways. Timing changes the placement of certain steps to create swing-like or shuffled rhythmic feel, while Delay moves the entire Track earlier or later. Use them to add groove, loosen rigid timing, or deliberately push and pull a pattern against the beat.

Knob Behavior

ActionDescription
TurnAdjust the Track’s Timing amount. This shifts every 2nd step earlier or later to create a non-uniform grid and a more swung or shuffled feel.
[CTRL] + TurnAdjust the Track’s Delay amount, moving the entire Track earlier or later against the grid.

Value Button Behavior

HoldDescription
PushSet the Timing or Delay amount directly using the [VALUE] buttons.
[CLEAR] + PushReset the selected parameter to its default setting and clear randomization.

How Random modulation applies to Timing:

  • Clockwise: +/- delay differently for each note in the chord
  • Counterclockwise: +/- delay equally for each note in the chord
  • Unit: Random Rate

See the Random Behavior Reference.

Applying Micro-Timing to a Track

Timing shifts every 2nd step earlier or later to reshape the rhythmic feel of the Track. Instead of moving all notes equally, it creates a push-and-pull against the grid that can sound more swung, shuffled, or mechanically offset depending on the amount and subdivision setting.

  1. Select a Track.
  2. Hold (TIMING) to display the current micro-timing setting on the [VALUE] buttons.
  3. Choose how strongly the Timing pattern is divided:
    • When both are unlit, x1 is used.
    • Press [VB8] to switch to x2 subdivision.
    • Press [VB16] to switch to x4 subdivision.
    • Press [VB8] or [VB16] again to move back through the available subdivision settings.
  4. Turn (TIMING) clockwise to push the affected steps later.
  5. Turn (TIMING) counter-clockwise to pull the affected steps earlier.
  6. Optionally press a [VALUE] button to set the amount directly.
  7. Press [CLEAR] + [VALUE] to reset Timing to its default setting and clear randomization.

Applying Delay to a Track

Delay moves the entire Track earlier or later relative to the grid. Unlike Timing, which offsets only certain steps, Delay shifts everything together. This is useful for nudging a Track ahead of the beat, letting it lag slightly behind, or lining it up more precisely with other gear.

  1. Select a Track.
  2. Hold [CTRL] and turn (TIMING) to access Delay.
  3. Turn [CTRL] + (TIMING) clockwise to push the entire Track later.
  4. Turn [CTRL] + (TIMING) counter-clockwise to pull the entire Track earlier.
  5. Optionally press a [VALUE] button to set the amount directly.
  6. Press [CLEAR] + [VALUE] to reset Delay to its centered default setting and clear randomization.
