Pattern Menu
The Pattern Menu is where you select, cue, and chain Patterns.
A Pattern is one playable section of music containing the full state of all 16 Tracks in the current Bank.
Patterns are designed for performance:
- Tracks play simultaneously inside the active Pattern
- Patterns themselves play one at a time
- during playback, Pattern changes can be queued and launched using Quantize
- longer structures can be created by chaining multiple Patterns
Each Pattern stores the complete state of the sequence, including:
- all 16 Tracks (Note / CC / FX)
- per-step edits
- Track mutes
- the Quantize setting for Pattern switching
Pattern States and Feedback
In the Pattern Menu, the Value Buttons act as Pattern slots, and their colors provide feedback on the state of each Pattern.
| State | Description |
|---|---|
| [WHITE] | Selected Pattern |
| [FLASHING WHITE] | Currently playing Pattern |
| [BLUE] | Pattern that has been changed from the empty state |
| [CYAN] | Pattern queued for playback |
Opening the Pattern Menu
Open the Pattern Menu using the Pattern button:
| Mode | Input |
|---|---|
| Momentary | Press and hold [PATTERN]. Release to exit. |
| Latching | Double-tap [PATTERN]. Tap again to exit. |
Selecting and Launching a Pattern
In most workflows, the selected Pattern (the one being edited) is also the playing Pattern (the one being heard). It is also possible to select and edit a Pattern that is not currently playing.
During Playback
To queue a Pattern during playback:
- Hold [PATTERN]
- Press [VBx] to queue that Pattern
- The queued Pattern starts according to Quantize
- When it starts playing, it becomes the selected Pattern
Select Without Playing
To select a different Pattern without launching it:
- Hold [PATTERN] + [CTRL]
- Press [VBx] to select that Pattern without changing what is currently playing
This is useful when you want to prepare a variation in advance and launch it later.

When Stopped
When playback is stopped, Pattern selection takes effect immediately.
- Hold [PATTERN]
- Press [VBx] to select the Pattern
- Press [PLAY] to start playback
In [TEMP] mode, selecting a Pattern slot ([VBx]) commits the current TEMP state to that Pattern and exits TEMP. This is a fast way to create Pattern variations while improvising.

Pattern Chaining
Pattern chaining lets you play a sequence of Patterns in order. This is useful when you want an arrangement longer than a single Pattern without manually switching sections.
Common uses:
- A/B alternation for evolving arrangements
- preparing a live set flow while keeping room for improvisation
Building a Chain
A chain is created by selecting Patterns in the order you want them to play.
To create a Pattern chain:
- Hold [PATTERN] and hold the first Pattern slot ([VBx]) in the chain
- While holding the first [VBx], press additional Pattern slots ([VBx]) in the desired order
- Release the first [VBx] to confirm
The chain plays after the currently playing Pattern and then continues through the queued order.
Pattern Quantize settings still apply during chained playback. Use this to control how long each Pattern plays before the chain advances.
Stopping a Chain
A Pattern chain continues playing until a single Pattern, or a different chain, is launched manually.
Launching Patterns via MIDI Program Change
Patterns can also be launched from external gear using MIDI Program Change messages. This is useful when you want to:
- control the T1 from a DAW timeline
- use a foot controller or pad controller to jump between sections
- have another sequencer coordinate arrangement changes
See MIDI Program Change Map for the Program Change values for each Pattern slot.
Practical Workflow Examples
Example: Build a 4-Pattern performance set
- Pattern 1: main groove
- Pattern 2: variation
- Pattern 3: breakdown
- Pattern 4: fill or transition
Then use quantized switching to move between sections without stopping playback.
Example: Generate variations with TEMP and chain them
- Start from a base Pattern
- Hold [TEMP] and perform changes
- While still in TEMP, press a new Pattern slot ([VB2], [VB3], ...) to commit the current state
- Repeat to create several variations quickly
- Create a chain using those Patterns and let the T1 step through them
