Length & Quantize

Length sets how long the selected Track plays before looping, from short fragments to extended phrases. Hold [CTRL] to access Quantize, which determines when structural changes are allowed to take effect. Together, they let you shape both the Track’s loop span and the timing of Pattern or Cycle changes.

Knob Behavior

ActionDescription
TurnSet the loop boundary for the selected Track in divisions of a bar.
[CTRL] + TurnSet the Quantize value for the current Pattern.

Value Button Behavior

ActionDescription
PushSet Length directly using the [VALUE] buttons, with the first beat of the sequence as the start position. Hold [CTRL] and press a [VALUE] button to set Quantize directly.
[CLEAR] + PushSet Length using the current playhead position as the loop start.

How Random modulation applies to Length:

  • Clockwise: Selects random length
  • Counterclockwise: Selects random length and randomly clears start point
  • Unit: -

See the Random Behavior Reference.

Adjusting Track Length

Length sets when the selected Track loops. The default setting is 1 bar. Length values are measured in divisions of a bar, allowing anything from very short looping fragments to long phrases or infinite playback.

Connecting Length and Steps

Steps and Length work together to shape how a Track behaves over time.

ControlBehavior
StepsThe size of the Track’s grid
LengthHow much of that grid is played before the loop repeats

Using an uneven combination of Steps and Length can create patterns that cycle against each other in musically interesting ways.

  1. Select a Track.
  2. Add Pulses using (PULSES).
  3. Set Steps to 12.
  4. Set Length to 1 bar.
  5. The sequence will restart every bar, causing the 12-step pattern to realign against the bar boundary over time.

Using Quantize

Quantize determines when structural changes take effect, so transitions happen on predictable musical boundaries. Pattern and Cycle changes follow the current Quantize setting and switch at the next allowed boundary.

Quantize is a per-Pattern control that affects all Tracks in that Pattern.

Quantize uses the same overall visualization as Length, with some shorter divisions omitted.

Use shorter Quantize values for fast edits and clip-like switching. Use longer values for larger arrangement changes and smoother transitions.

Use [TEMP] for momentary Length changes between boundaries, then release exactly on the Quantize boundary for a clean reset.
