Pitch & Harmony

Pitch defines the notes available to the selected Track and lets you transpose them within the current Scale. Hold [CTRL] to access Harmony, which shifts one chord tone at a time to create harmonic variation. Together, they let you shape both the tonal content of a Track and how its chords evolve.

Knob Behavior

ActionDescription
TurnTranspose the inserted pitches in semitones.
[CTRL] + TurnApply Harmony, shifting one pitch at a time.

Value Button Behavior

ActionDescription
PushInsert or remove pitches using the [VALUE] buttons. Use [VB8] and [VB16] to move up and down in octaves.
[CTRL] + PushPress [VB8] or [VB16] while holding [CTRL] to transpose all inserted pitches up or down by one octave.
[CLEAR] + PushHold [CLEAR] and press a pitch to clear all other inserted notes and keep only the selected pitch.

How Random modulation applies to Pitch:

  • Clockwise: + pitch differently for each note in the chord
  • Counterclockwise: - pitch equally for each not in the chord
  • Unit: Per cycle

See the Random Behavior Reference.

Configuring Pitches on a Track

Pitch sets the notes available to the selected Track. Turning (PITCH) transposes all inserted pitches within the currently selected Scale. Hold (PITCH) to open the keyboard view, where the [VALUE] buttons act as a chromatic keyboard. From there, you can insert or remove pitches directly.

While holding (PITCH) in the keyboard view, the [VALUE] buttons light in different colors to show inserted notes, available pitches, and octave controls.

Value Button ColorDescription
[ORANGE]Inserted pitches.
[WHITE]White piano keys: C, D, E, F, G, A, B
[BLUE]Black piano keys: C#, D#, F#, G#, A#
[DARK BLUE]Pitches outside the currently selected scale.
[DARK RED]Octave modifier buttons.

Pitches outside the selected scale cannot be selected. The octave modifiers show the current octave as a gradient from BLUE (lower octaves) to DARK RED (higher octaves). The middle octave (C3–B3) is shown in RED.

Use [CLEAR] while selecting a pitch to quickly replace the entire note set with a single note.

Use [CTRL] together with [VB8] or [VB16] to move all inserted pitches by a full octave.

Using Harmony

Harmony creates harmonic variation by shifting one chord tone at a time up or down, depending on the direction you turn the control. This makes it useful for exploring alternate chord shapes and melodic movement when multiple pitches are selected.

Harmony is hysteretic, which means its result depends on the changes that came before. Turning the control one way and then back again will not always return the pitches to their previous state.

Use Harmony together with a Scale for more controlled results and more musical chord variations.
