Steps
The Steps parameter sets the length of a Track and defines the time span in which triggers can be placed. Shorter step counts create tight, fast loops, while longer step counts allow for more extended patterns and variation. Together with Pulses, Steps forms the foundation of Euclidean sequencing on the T1.
Knob Behavior
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Turn | Set the number of Steps from 1 to 16. |
| [CTRL] + Turn | Set the number of Steps from 17 to 64. |
Value Button Behavior
| Hold | Description |
|---|---|
| Push | Set the number of Steps directly using the corresponding [VALUE] button. |
| [CLEAR] + Push | While in the Steps menu, insert a Retrigger at the selected step. |
How Random modulation applies to Steps:
- Clockwise: + number of steps
- Counterclockwise: - number of steps
- Unit: Per cycle
See the Random Behavior Reference.
Creating Longer Sequences
The default Track length is 16 Steps, but Tracks can be extended up to 64 Steps.
- Turn (STEPS) to set a length from 1 to 16.
- Hold [CTRL] and turn (STEPS) to set a length from 17 to 64.
When a Track is longer than 16 Steps, it is shown across up to four sequencer pages. While in the Steps menu, hold [CTRL] and press a page button to move between them.
| Button | Step range |
|---|---|
| [BANK] | 1–16 |
| [PATTERN] | 17–32 |
| [TEMP] | 33–48 |
| [MUTE] | 49–64 |
You can also use the [VALUE] buttons to set the step count directly on the selected page.
The random sequence is always 16 steps long, regardless of the Track length. On Tracks longer than 16 steps, the random sequence loops against the longer pattern, which can create evolving variations across the different pages.
Retriggering the Sequence
A Retrigger restarts the sequence when the playhead reaches that step. When this happens, Random, Range, Accent, and Voicing are also reset and begin again from that point.
To insert a Retrigger
- Double-tap (STEPS) to open the Steps menu.
- Press and hold [CLEAR].
- Tap a [STEP] button to insert a Retrigger.
- The selected step lights red to show that it is a Retrigger.
