DISC
Sample playback device with audio streaming directly from disk
DISC is a sample playback device that streams audio directly from disk, enabling playback of long-form audio files. Ideal for full-length stems, field recordings, or long loops, DISC is only limited by available storage space. With familiar controls for pitch, start, length, and amplitude, it offers intuitive handling of audio files while maintaining precise timing and integration within the device chain.

Parameters
SPEED: Speed of the audio playback. Increments are in octaves. If the value of the parameter is changed, the playhead will jump in time so playback will remain in sync.
This parameter is only available in SYNC mode for the TEMPO parameter.
PITCH : Sets the pitch of the sample. Will not affect tempo.

This parameter is only available in STRETCH mode for the TEMPO parameter.

This parameter is only available in FREE mode for the TEMPO parameter.
TEMPO : Adjust the sample tempo BPM. Synchronised to the master tempo.
| Parameter Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| SYNC | This mode ensures the loaded sample is always in sync with the global tempo. This is the default mode of DISC. |
| STRETCH | This mode will keep the pitch of the sample and stretch it to match the global tempo. |
| FREE | This mode will set sample playback completely free, decoupled from the global tempo. |
START : Adjust the start position the playhead. Quantisation grid is set with the paramater mode. The mode of START is synced with the mode of LENGTH.
| Parameter Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| 4/1 | 4 bars. |
| 2/1 | 2 bars. |
| 1/1 | 1 bar. |
| 1/2 | 1/2 bar. |
| 1/4 | 1 quarter note |
| 1/8 | 1 eighth note |
| 1/16 | 1 sixteenth note |
| 1/32 | 1 thirty-second note |
| 1/64 | 1 sixty-fourth note |
| FREE | Only available in TEMPO FREE mode. |
LENGTH : Adjust the length of the loop region. Quantisation grid is set with the paramater mode. The mode of LENGTH is synced with the mode of START.
| Parameter Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| 4/1 | 4 bars. |
| 2/1 | 2 bars. |
| 1/1 | 1 bar. |
| 1/2 | 1/2 bar. |
| 1/4 | 1 quarter note |
| 1/8 | 1 eighth note |
| 1/16 | 1 sixteenth note |
| 1/32 | 1 thirty-second note |
| 1/64 | 1 sixty-fourth note |
| FREE | Only available in TEMPO FREE mode. |
OFFSET: Shift the audio sample position by +- 2 seconds.
XFADE: Applies a crossfade at the loop end/start point. The maximum XFADE length is limited by the START parameter.
Actions
LOAD: Open the Sample Browser for loading a sample into DISC.
When a sample is loaded, a waveform will dynamically be generated. If the S-4 is playing, up to 30 seconds of the waveform will be generated. The generation of the waveform will continue when the S-4 is not playing.
FREEZE: A toggle for freezing the playhead at its current position.
REVERSE: A toggle for reversing playback.
RECORD: Start and stop recording in DISC.
TEMPO Modes
Unique for DISC is the option to choose between different TEMPO modes. These modes will adjust the behaviour of how DISC will playback samples and how the SPEED/PITCH parameter works. These modes are accessed through Parameter Modes on the TEMPO parameter.
| Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| SYNC | Ensures the loaded sample stays in sync with the Global Tempo. This is the default mode of TEMPO. SPEED can be adjusted in octaves, and when changed, the playhead will reposition so playback remains in sync. |
| STRETCH | Keeps the pitch constant while stretching the sample to match the Global Tempo. PITCH can be adjusted in scales (via Parameter Modes) without affecting playback speed. |
| FREE | Plays the sample freely, independent of the Global Tempo. SPEED can be adjusted in scales (via Parameter Modes) and affects both pitch and speed. |
Recording in DISC
DISC allows for recording into a new file on the internal storage. The recorded audio is a mix of track input and the sample played in DISC, controlled by SOS parameter. When a recording has ended, either by tapping RECORD while recording, or when the local storage is full, DISC starts playback of the recorded file automatically.
Recored files are saved along with the project. Use the [SAVE] action to access the recorded audio in the Sample Browser for use on other Tracks or Projects.
DISC record follows the global quantization setting. Learn more here
Long samples in DISC can in some cases give clicks and pops. Here’s a few tips on how to minimize the issue:
- Convert to 48kHz 16-bit .wav-file for best performance
- Only use long samples on a single track
- Prefer internal storage from external USB drives
- Set XFADE to zero
