Unfortunately the issue with the display being blank has been reported in 2.0. For now a solution is to set the S4 to standby.

  1. Press down on the [SELECT] encoder.
  2. Press the TRIANGLE action button.
  3. This should set the unit to standby mode.
  4. Tap the [SELECT] encoder to power the unit on again, and have the DISPLAY turn on.

It is a known issue in 2.0 that there can be issues when saving/loading upon booting the unit. We are currently working on a bugfix update that will fix this issue.

Upgrading from v1.x to v2.x requires you to remove all user data from disk. A prompt will guide you through the process—no data will be deleted automatically.

When prompted to wipe the S4, the device will automatically enter USB MASS STORAGE mode. Simply connect it to your computer via USB to back up your files.

The v2.x installation cannot proceed if any user samples, recordings, or projects remain on the S4. When the installation is complete, you can transfer any user samples, recordings and projects back on to the S4.

The S4 requires a .zip file for performing firmware updates. Please make sure not to unzip the downloaded file before transferring it to the S4. Re-zipping the firmware once it has been unzipped will not work.

We frequently encounter issues with Safari automatically unpacking zip files post-download. To prevent this, please uncheck the box in Safari called “Open files after downloading” in Settings → General.

  • Make sure the file isn’t a duplicate.
  • Duplicate files will be named with a number in parenthesis, for example S4-OS-v1.2.2 (1).zip.
  • Empty the trash — not enough space can cause the error.

Use RECOVERY mode to boot your S4 into USB MASS STORAGE.

  1. Power down the S4.
  2. Connect a USB-C data cable from your computer to the S4, and power on the unit.
  3. Under [SYSTEM] select USB MASS STORAGE.
  • Connect your S4 directly to the computer without a USB hub.
  • Flip the USB cable.
  • Make sure to use a USB-C data cable and not a USB-C power cable to connect to your computer.
  • Make a power cycle by unplugging and replugging the power supply.
  • FACTORY RESET the unit.

If your S4 unit still won’t go into USB MASS STORAGE mode, contact our support mail: support@torsoelectronics.com

  • Make sure to format to FAT32.
  • Use a recent and fast drive for best performance.
  • Avoid connecting through a USB hub.

In Track View, ensure that the track is correctly routed to another track. The receiving track must be either a Material device set to BYPASS, or a DISC or TAPE device set to Monitor mode.
